circumspect

circum(circle)+spect(to look)가 결합한 circumspect는 기본적으로 행동하기 전에 '주변을 둘러보다'라는 뜻으로써, 'cautious(신중한)'과 유사한 의미로 쓰인다. 

His answer was careful and circumspect, and I couldn't help thinking he knew a lot more than he was telling.
그의 대답은 매우 신중하고 조심스러워서, 그가 말한 것보다 더 많은 것을 알고 있다고 생각하지 않을 수 없다.
