결혼약속이든 어떠한 거래약속이든 약속을 깨는 것을 renege라고 표현한다.

역사는 파기된 약속와 공약과 조약으로 가득 차 있다.

welsh 역시 renege와 같은 뜻으로 사용된다. 하지만 welsh는 Welsh(웨일스사람)에서 온 말이기 때문에 차별적인 의미를 담고 있다. 쓰지 않는 것이 좋다.
