As the tug-of-war continues between the South Korean government and the nation's doctors, President Yoon Suk Yeol hits back at the collective action and says it's his "constitutional duty" to stop the medical system from breaking down. The comments came on Tuesday as he opened a Cabinet meeting, with the government exercising its legal authority to order those who've resigned to go back to work.

As of the latest briefing on Tuesday morning, a total of 831 trainee doctors have received such orders.

If they decide to not comply, their licenses could be suspended.

To relieve the current shortages of residences at major hospitals, compensation will be increased for emergency medical service personnel at regional and specialized emergency medical centers, as well as for emergency medical specialists doing consultations.

Additionally, a "Hospitalized Patient Emergency Care Policy Support Fund" will be established to provide additional compensation to specialists who treat hospitalized patients in the place of the absent residents.
